Manchester wrestlers victorious

Manchester beat out 15 other youth wrestling teams from the Washington-Baltimore metro area to win the Dundalk Tournament last weekend.

Manchester garnered 228 team points to edge second-place Randallstown, which had 223.

South Carroll-based Warriors Wrestling Club continued its banner year by placing third with 184.

Manchester took four firsts -- Tyler Alexander (60 pounds), Fran Jackson (65), Randy Holmes (85) and Eddy Davis (107).

Second in their weights were the Warriors' Bryan Hamper (65), Josh Zillmer (115), Justyn Weber (130) and Charlie Conaway (140) along with Manchester's Tyler Graham (50) and James Holmes (70).

fTC Third were the Warriors' Jared Zillmer (75), Andy Seal (95), Jeremy Lignelli (115) and Mike Chenoweth (150).

Fourth were Manchester's Adam Boog (90), Colin Eutsler (140) and Jason Simons (150), along with the Warriors' Kevin Jeffress (107).

Fifth were the Warriors' Mike Muller (90) and Manchester's Todd Bosley (95) and Craig Hann (122).

Sixth were Joe Smith (85) and Chad Counts (140) of the Warriors.

* Francis Scott Key and the Westminster Mat Rats competed in the Middle River Invitational wrestling tournament.

Key's Lee Crowl (45) and Nate Yinger (60) took firsts, and teammates Ronnie Howard (65) and Darin Hooper (70) were second.

Westminster's Bobby Biden (80) also was second.

Third were Westminster's Chad Howard (107), Charlie Minor (130) and Tim Clark (heavyweight), along with Key's Matt Yinger (90).

Placing fourth were Westminster's Josh Corkran (50), Dustin Clayton (60), Jimmy Reiter (80), Chad Twigg (122) and Dustin Albaugh (heavyweight).

Fifth were Key's John Hughes (80) and Tim Beale (100), along with Westminster's Jason Blair (107),

Greg Handley (122), Jim Sharkey (150) and Bob Metzger (heavyweight).

St John's basketball

* Grades K-2 Division -- Bryant Graham scored eight points to lead the Magic to an 18-13 win over the Panthers. Josh Tippett's six points led the Panthers.

* The Eagles pushed their record to 6-0 with a 20-4 win over the Heat. Shawn Wynne led the first-place Eagles with 10 points, and Shane Russell had the Heat's four.

* The Spurs ripped the Terrors, 19-2, as Billy Lennon paced the winners' attack with seven points.

* Matt Duke had six points to lead the Owls over the Cavs, 14-8.

* Grades 3-4 Division -- The Knicks got past the Pistons, 11-8. Brendan McDaniel led the 6-0, first-place Knicks with four points, and Bob Sheehy had three for the Pistons.

* Sean Parone scored four points as his Jazz edged the Spurs, 11-10. Ben Yingling led the Spurs with four points.

* The Sonics ripped the Nets, 21-11. Marcus Frisby paced the victors with eight points and Ian DePinto had four for the Nets.

* Jerry Laumann scored 11 points as his Suns topped the Celtics, 20-14. Paul Smith had four for the Celtics.

Westminster girls basketball

* Age 12-15 Division -- Paula Smith scored 14 points and Tara Gephardt had 10 as Westminster #2 ripped Westminster #5, 40-12. Alicia Guseman's five points led Westminster #5.

* Michelle Matthews had 12 points to lead Westminster #4 to a 30-14 win over Westminster #3. Melissa Banks' six points paced Westminster #3.

* Westminster #1 overcame a 10-point deficit with less than two minutes left to beat Westminster #6, 32-30. Kim Riley paced the winners with 10 points and scored the deciding basket. Candice Caldron had a game-high 14 for Westminster #6.

* Age 9-11 Division -- Jessica Holman scored eight points to lead Westminster #1 to a 14-8 win over Westminster #8. Kim Schlipper's five points led Westminster #8.

* First-place Westminster #4 stayed unbeaten with a 16-6 win over Westminster #5. Melinda Erbe's six points led the winners (3-0). Megan Malinowski paced Westminster #5 with four.

* Westminster #6 defeated Westminster #3, 10-0, as Kim McGettington paced a balanced attack with three points.

* Laura Yingling scored eight points to key Westminster #2 to a 16-4 win over Westminster #7.

* Age 7-8 Division -- Westminster #3 topped Westminster #4, 8-2. Holly Cushen paced the winners with four points.

Sandymount basketball

* Grade 3-5 Division -- Justin Dunn scored all of his Lakers' points in a 26-20 win over the Pistons. Matt Parker scored eight for the Pistons.

* The Bulls topped the Celtics, 30-12. Colin Boeh scored 12 points for the victors and Brock Myers, six for the Celtics.

* J. W. Sawyer had 18 points to lead his undefeated Magic squad to a 27-19 win over the Hornets. The Magic leads the B division with a 4-0 record. Matthew Thompson was the big gun for the Hornets with 17.

* The Jazz doubled the score on the Heat, 34-17. Jeff Chaney and Steve Lawson led the Jazz with 10 points apiece, and Justin Simons topped the Heat with seven.

* Grades 6-8 Division -- The Bullets pushed their first-place record to 4-0 with a 55-34 win over the Hornets despite a game-high 24 points by the Hornets' Bobby Warfield. Christopher Thompson led the winners with 22 points.

* The Lakers used a 21-point performance by Scott Stem to trip the Bulls, 31-25. Ryan Webster's 10 points paced the Bulls.

* The Celtics beat the Magic, 46-41. Mike Wissinger scored a game-high 18 points for the Magic, and Nicholas Jenkins paced the winners with 15 points.
