2 West Middle students have winning essays

Jennifer Trumpler and Amy D'Anthony, both West Middle School students, have won first and second place honors, respectively, in the Lions International 1993 American Heritage and Patriotism Essay Contest.

For her first-place essay, Jennifer will receive a $100 savings bond and her essay will be forwarded to the next level of competition.

L Amy was awarded a $50 savings bond for winning second place.


* Westminster: The front window was shattered Monday aDavis Shoe and Boots shop in the first block of E. Main St. The replacement cost is about $200.

Two cars parked on Manchester Avenue were spray painted on Monday. The owners were of Finksburg and Westminster. Neither man was able to estimate damages.

A building and a trailer on 24th Street, off Manchester Avenue, was spray painted on Monday. Damage cost is about $100 Robert Frey told police.

A trash container at the City Playground was destroyed Monday. A Public Works Department official estimated $175 of damage.


* Westminster: Westminster units were dispatched to Route 97 near Hook Road at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday after a motorist reported heavy smoke in the area. No fire was found, and the units returned to service in 15 minutes.

At 2:01 p.m. on Tuesday, a trash fire behind a house on Washington Road was extinguished in 20 minutes by Westminster firefighters.
