Joseph C. Roberts

Had produce business

Joseph C. Roberts, retired owner of an Elkridge produce business, died Monday of cancer at the Fort Howard Veterans Hospital.

Mr. Roberts, who was 67 and lived in Elkridge, retired about five years ago as the owner for more than 20 years of J. C. Roberts Produce, a stand at Washington Boulevard and Meadowridge Road.

Services were to be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home, 5695 Main St., Elkridge. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Irene L. Marcellus; a rTC son, Joseph C. Roberts III of Elkridge; a daughter, Sandra E. Knickman of Ellicott City; a brother, Edward J. Roberts of Elkridge; and four grandchildren.


Charles B. Rice

Correctional official

Charles B. Rice, an administrator in the state correctional system, died Jan. 28 of cancer at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 55 and lived on Belle Avenue.

He was assistant regional administrator for the Baltimore region of the Division of Parole and Probation of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Born in Baltimore, he was a 1955 graduate of Dunbar Senior High School and a 1960 graduate of what was then Morgan State College.

Services were to be conducted at 11:30 a.m. today at Enon Baptist Church, Edmondson Avenue and Schroeder Street. Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Ann Summers; four daughters, Jacqueline Giddins, Joyce Cromwell, Inetta Rice and Tyese Victoria Rice; his father, Edward Rice Sr.; a brother, Edward Rice Jr.; and three grandchildren. All are of Baltimore.
