UMBC hits 11 of 14 3's to beat Winthrop, 85-79

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Skip Saunders scored a game-high 25 points and UMBC shot 11 of 14 from three-point range to defeat Winthrop, 85-79, last night in a Big South game.

After trailing by nine points early in the game, the Retrievers (7-10, 4-4) built a five-point halftime lead and hit six consecutive three-pointers to open a 73-57 lead with 12:25 left in the game.

UMBC's Sonique Nixon added 14 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds. Teammate Spencer Ferguson scored 11 for UMBC.

Winthrop (8-8, 3-4) was led by LaShawn Coulter, who scored 17 points.
