Union Bridge to consider borrowing

The Union Bridge Town Council will meet briefly at 6:45 tonight to introduce an ordinance that would allow the town to borrow money to renovate the old Pump House on Locust street and construct a new town hall adjoining it.

The council will vote on the ordinance at its regular monthly meeting Feb. 28.

The ordinance would give the mayor and Town Council authority to raise money to pay off a bank loan for the project.

"This is just a formality," said Town Clerk Kathleen D. Kreimer, who said the town probably would seek about $200,000 for the project.

The town voted Jan. 25 to accept a bid from a Sykesville builder who will construct the facility, which will have an office for the mayor, two clerks, a large meeting room and a conference room.

Offices for a city police force will be built as part of the renovations to the century-old Pump House.

* Marston: New Windsor, Winfield, Westminster and Union Bridge responded to a fire in an apartment building on Marston Road at 3:08 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for 25 minutes.
