25 Years Ago (week of Jan. 21-27, 1968):

* An American Airlines hostess spoke to a group of enthralled Waterloo Middle School girls on the subject of a career as a

stewardess. Among the requirements stressed: to be attractive and have a sparkling personality.

50 Years Ago (week of Jan. 24-30, 1943):

* Police Chief Russell Moxley and State Police Trooper Harvey Harrison traveled to New York City to pick up a suspect they had requested New York authorities to apprehend. The suspect, Joseph Labiskias, was wanted in Howard County for allegedly stealing several suitcases full of clothing from a cabin at Hardman's Tourist Cabins. Labiskias was later found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 2 1/2 years at the Maryland House of Corrections.
