Breakfast Shoppe

360 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Hours: Tuesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call: (410) 544-8599.

If breakfast and carryout don't go together as readily as ham and eggs, be advised that this pleasant little restaurant also has an assortment of salads, sandwiches and desserts. Eggs Benedict don't travel any too well, but you're welcome to try. Muffins and sticky buns ($1.75-$2.25) might be a better bet.

The Sodbuster is a favorite sandwich at the Breakfast Shoppe. That's ham or turkey grilled with bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese and sprouts for $5.75. The traditional Reuben ($5.95) is another favorite. There's also the Beefbuster, a tuna melt, ham and cheese and BLT from $4.50, all on house bread with chips and pickle.

The Stacker is a pile of ham or turkey with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and sprouts, sort of a Sodbuster without the bread for $5.50.

Salads and fruit platters go from $2.95 (tossed) to $5.95 (chef), with the Shoppe salad and Greek salad among the best. Soup and chili are homemade.

Desserts include vanilla ice cream, sundaes, strawberry shortcake and peach or pear Melba.

But breakfast is the mainstay here, wherever you choose to eat it. Eggs Benedict are a specialty, and you may pick your own Acombination. The traditional item, with Canadian bacon, is $4.95- $5.95. Or try the Florentine Benny, Benny bleu, veal Benny or Philadelphia Benny. A variety of omelets (four eggs), pancakes, waffles and steak and eggs start at $2.95 for a short stack. Banana nut pancakes are $4.95.
