7-7-7 and 7-7-7. Those numbers were drawn in the Pennsylvania and New York state lotteries Wednesday.

In Pennsylvania, the total payout for the Daily Number drawing came to $27.1 million, the state's fifth-largest ever. There were 71,290 winning tickets.

In New York, there were 12,214 winning tickets sold.

The odds of a "particular" numerical sequence being drawn the same day in two specific lotteries are 1,000 times 1,000, or 1 in 1 million, said Steve Bajgier, head of the department of quantitative methods at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Or, divided by 365 -- the number of days the lottery is drawn in both states -- you can expect that to happen about once every 2,739 years and nine months.

Pennsylvania's most-played daily number is 7-7-7 and it's also the most frequently drawn among the 1,000 possible combinations.
