Coalition to discuss plan for Springfield patients

The South Carroll Coalition plans a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Eldersburg library.

The group formed several months ago to protest the state's proposals for housing violent patients and juvenile delinquents at Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville.

Members have collected nearly 1,000 signatures in a petition drive against the proposals.

"We are encouraging everyone to come," said Mary Ellen Gearhart, president of the Carrolltowne Association, a 250-home development which borders the center's grounds.

Ms. Gearhart said the members will provide information about the coalition's plans and goals. They will also discuss bills now before the state legislature, the proposed detention center and the possible transfer of patients from Rosewood Center in Baltimore County.

& Information: 781-7210.
