Last call for tickets to the Count Basie Orchestra concert. The 8 p.m. concert on Tuesday at Glenelg High promises to be fantastic. One music fan I know heard this band recently and told me they blow the windows out of a room when they get going. Why should you go?

Besides the excellent entertainment value a $15 ticket buys you, you'll be supporting the Glenelg High music program. It's going to be an exciting evening for our community. Listening to the Glenelg High School Jazz Band, which will open the program, is worth the trip by itself. These students are awesome!

Congratulations to Glenelg High School Band Director Barry Enzman. The Maryland Music Educators' Association has recognized him as the Maryland Music Teacher of the Year. Mr. Enzman sets high standards for his students, and he helps them meet those standards. That is why the Glenelg High School Band is known nationally as an outstanding group of performers.

Today is graduation day for the fifth-graders at Clarksville Elementary School. Children have completed the DARE program, and each will receive a DARE T-shirt, compliments of the Clarksville PTA, which supported the program. DARE is the program that teaches children about substance abuse and how to handle peer pressure.

This Saturday, Glenwood's Bill Pindell will celebrate his 84th birthday. His friend and fellow Glenwood Lions Club member Ed Pelsinsky says, "You'll have to go far to find a finer and more dedicated friend." Happy Birthday, Mr. Pindell!
