Eldersburg youth picked as finalist in preteen pageant

Rebecca Ann Crowder, 11, of Eldersburg has been accepted as a state finalist in the Miss American Pre-Teen pageant to be held June 19-20 at the Marriott Hotel at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Contestants are judged on poise, personality, stage appearance, personal interview and achievements.

The event, run by American Co-ed Pageant, is open to girls age 4 to 19 who are good students. Emphasis is placed on the importance of physical fitness, mental alertness, self-confidence, achievement in school and service to the community and church.

This year's pageant theme is "Youth -- Pride of the Present, Hope of the Future."

The winners will receive cash, trophies, crowns, banners, and trips or travel allowances to the national pageant at the Hyatt Regency in Tampa, Fla.

Rebecca's hobbies include ballet, gymnastics and music. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Snyder of Eldersburg. * Gamber: Fire units from the Gamber station responded to an alarm sounding on Dandelion Drive at 8:08 a.m. Tuesday.

* Eldersburg: Sykesville was dispatched to clean a spill on Bartholow Road at 1:57 p.m. Tuesday.
