School board seeks convention delegates

January 27, 1993

The Anne Arundel County School Board Nominating Convention is looking for delegates to attend its April convention, as well as candidates interested in serving on the county Board of Education.

The annual convention, set for May 5, votes on its preferences for the school board seat and sends a list of candidates to the governor for his consideration.

Although not bound by the convention's choices, Gov. William Donald Schaefer has said he will abide by the choice of County Executive Robert R. Neall, who has said he would pick from among the list.

This year's open seat is currently occupied by board President Vincent O. Leggett. Candidates may live anywhere in Anne Arundel County.

Delegates must represent nonpartisan, nonprofit groups approved by the convention committee; the number of delegates per organization depends on the size of its membership. Candidates must be nominated by a member organization.

The deadline for candidate nominations is March 6. The deadline for delegate registration is March 30.
