Uncertain Spring

January 26, 1993|By Niki Leopold

After difficult labor

Winter is finally delivered

of snow drops,

Pale and small,

Close to the earth,

Like the newborn cub

Of a polar bear, long waited

for,

Clutched to its mother's

Vast, white breast

Even in death.
