North Carroll student chosen for national forum

Joel Geyer, a Hampstead resident and North Carroll High student, has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Security and Defense that will be held in Washington Feb. 9 to 14.

Students will learn first-hand how the United States plans for its national defense and global security.

Speakers will be Adm. William J. Crowe, chairman of President Clinton's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Committee and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs; Gen. Alexander Haig Jr., former secretary of state and commander-in-chief of NATO forces; and Robert Zelnick, Pentagon correspondent for ABC News.

The National Youth Leadership Forum is a nonpartisan, nonprofit educational organization that sponsors highly specialized, career-oriented programs for secondary youth with leadership potential.

Joel is also a Civil Air Patrol cadet in the Carroll Composite Squadron, which meets in Westminster, and was the cadet of the year for 1992.

He is a member of the North Carroll High wrestling and lacrosse team, and is a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Snydersburg.

He plans to continue his education at the Air Force Academy after graduation from North Carroll High and become a career officer in the Air Force.
