Sykesville man injured during traffic accident

A 40-year-old Sykesville man was flown by state police helicopter to a shock trauma center after driving into an embankment near his home early Sunday, Howard County police said.

Chester Towers of the block 7600 block of Gaither Road was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was treated for his injuries and later discharged, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Mr. Towers was injured in his 1982 Toyota Corolla about 12:30 a.m. Sunday while heading east on Gaither Road near Forsythe Road, police said.

After passing a stop sign, his car ran into an embankment, police said.

Police are investigating the accident.

Units were out for 30 minutes.

Units from the Sykesville fire station were dispatched to Autumn View Drive for wires arcing at 7:10 p.m on Sunday.

Sykesville firefighters battled a trash fire on Raincliffe Road at 7:41 p.m. on Sunday.

They were out for 52 minutes.

* Gamber: Gamber responded to a report of an activated smoke detector on Sykesville Road at 4:13 p.m. Monday.

Units were out for 15 minutes.
