Neighbors to learn hospital plan details

The Carrolltowne Association, a group of 250 homeowners whose development borders Springfield Hospital Center, will meet with representatives from the state Juvenile Services at 7 tonight at Eldersburg Library.

The state discussed plans this month to renovate the Lane Building on the center grounds into a 74-bed detention center.

The representatives will provide more information on the proposal.

Many association members are also part of the South Carroll Coalition, which formed to protest housing violent criminals and juvenile delinquents at the center.

The coalition has collected more than 800 signed petitions against the project.

"We will continue the petition drive until there is a final decision," said Kathleen Horneman, coalition member.

At the meeting, the state police also will conduct the annual review of the Neighborhood Watch program.
