Spring is just around the corner and with it come thoughts of softball, baseball and T-ball seasons. The Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association will begin registration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave.

Registration will continue on Saturdays through Feb. 27 at the school and from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays at Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School on Hammonds Lane. Youths from 5 to 15 years old are invited to join.

The registration fee is $25 for one child, $40 for two or more.

Plan to register early because a waiting list will be compiled after all team slots are filled.

* The association will meet at 8:30 tonight at the Northern District Police Station on Hammonds Lane. Members will discuss the spring sports season.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: Guest Reader Day is planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting parents will read to every class.

Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School news: Students who sold the Corbi Pizza Kits should pick them up from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

* First semester exams will take place today through Wednesday. The school will open two hours, 15 minutes late but close at the regular time.

North County High School news: Students will take their first semester examinations today through Wednesday.

The school will open two hours, 15 minutes late but will close at the regular time.

Students must report to their first-period classes by 9:45 a.m. on each exam day.

No breakfast or lunch will be served.

Students can take a snack to their second exam each day.

Exam makeups are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Anne Arundel County public schools will be closed Thursday, Friday and Monday.

Harbor Hospital Center news: The center and the American Red Cross are sponsoring a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 2 in the Gruehn building auditorium. Participants should make appointments. For more information, call 347-3478.

* The Harbor Hikers program will provide free T-shirts, coffee mugs and membership cards to new registrants. The program is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays, at the Glen Burnie Mall. A nurse will be available on Wednesdays to register new walkers, offer free blood-pressure checks and answer questions.

Arundel Improvement Association news: A minivan trip to the State House is scheduled for Friday. The bus will leave the association hall at 9:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call 789-2192.

The Brooklyn Park High School Classes of 1982 and 1983 have announced plans for their 10-year reunion on May 22 to 23.

Alumni will spend a night of dining and dancing from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at La Fontaine Bleu on May 22. A disc jockey will provide the music. A hot buffet and open bar will be available. Tickets are $30 a person.

From noon to dusk on May 23, alumni and their families are invited to Patapsco State Park for a day of fun.

The park includes playgrounds, ball fields and a stream for fishing.

The county Department of Recreation and Parks is offering a free arts and crafts class for kindergartners through third-graders from 3:20 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Feb. 3, at Brooklyn Park Elementary School. Supplies and materials are provided.
