Baltimore man is arrested after shooting

January 24, 1993|By Staff Report

A Baltimore man charged with firing a shot at another man was being held yesterday at the Carroll County Detention Center.

Westminster police arrested Antoin J. Newman, 22, of the 4100 block of Park Heights Ave., on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with a deadly weapon, transporting a handgun in a vehicle, reckless endangerment and assault. Bail was set at $50,000.

Police said they recovered an unloaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol from an apartment in the first block of Union St., where Mr. Newman was arrested before 1 a.m. Friday.

Police were trying to determine yesterday whether the gun had been fired.

Police spokesman Lt. Randy Barnes said Steven Patterson told officers a man had fired a shot at him, but missed, shortly before midnight Thursday on South Center Street, and a witness identified the man as Mr. Newman.

Police could not provide Mr. Patterson's address.

Lieutenant Barnes said police did not know what prompted the incident.
