Parkville man 1st fatality of year on Carroll roads

January 24, 1993

WESTMINSTER -- A 37-year-old Parkville man was killed yesterday morning after his car slid into the path of a four-wheel drive station wagon on Route 140 near here, police said.

William P. Panos was heading west in his 1982 Datsun from his home in Parkville to visit friends in Taneytown when his brakes apparently locked at 1:44 a.m., police officials said.

Mr. Panos' car slid sideways across the road into the path of a 1993 Ford Explorer, driven by Charles P. Kuhns, 62, of Hampstead, police said.

Mr. Panos was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, near Pleasant Valley Road.

He became the first fatality on Carroll County roads during this year.

Sgt. C. J. Stiles at the state police Westminster barracks said that she did not know why Mr. Panos might have hit his brakes.
