If you're like me, and always racing out the door on the way twork, then breakfast is something to catch on the fly. How nice -- as well as handy -- to find a pleasant place for breakfast at the very bottom of your office complex. Downtown, there are lots of small carryout shops tucked into office towers, but the On a Roll Deli is in the office complex of Loveton Business Center. Although there's a roomful of small, square tables and modern black-lacquered chairs accenting the mauve tones, the room is half the space of the previous tenant, the Loveton Cafe.

But there's plenty of room to sit while waiting (briefly) for your order or to open the morning paper while eating eggs or a bagel or toast or the daily breakfast special.

The sandwiches are what you'd expect to find in a deli -- ham, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, salami, liverwurst on the typical selection of breads, as well as homemade rolls. The smoked turkey was a good inch-thick with provolone and lettuce ($3.50).

You can get subs or salads or soups, and side orders range from french fries (95 cents; with gravy, 30 cents more) to homemade pasta salad. There are specialties of the house, favorites of Helen, Amy, John and Stan. John's Favorite was a tasty grilled boneless chicken breast on one of the homemade rolls with mayo, lettuce and tomato. While filling, it could have had more zip.

And there are homemade desserts -- cakes, cheesecakes, brownies and cookies. The chocolate chip cookies (three for $1) were hard to resist. Rich and thick, they were crispy on the outside, chewy in, with wonderfully chocolatey chips. Among the best I've had.
