The 43 volunteers who have helped hand out boxes of food all year at Carroll County Food Sunday were honored Tuesday at a dinner sponsored by the Westminster Kiwanis Club.

The organization operates food banks at the Barrellhouse on Distillery Drive in Westminster, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown and at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sykesville.

Of the 43 volunteers, most have given more than 100 hours this year, said Paul G. Martin, executive officer of Food Sunday.

Special recognition went to four volunteers who manage the banks:

In Westminster, Harris Sanner gave 900 hours; in Taneytown, Ralph Kelly gave 400 hours; and in Sykesville, Elaine Martin gave 900 hours. Also, John Ferrant, the assistant manager at the Westminster bank, gave 700 hours.

"They all gave over that -- we just rounded it down," said Mr. Martin.

The banquet was at the Westminster Church of the Brethren.
