FERNDALE — Brooklyn Park man beaten, robbed

A 62-year-old Brooklyn Park man was beaten and robbed in his home Wednesday, police said.

Police said the bandit smashed a pane of glass in the door of the man's home in the 5300 block of Brookwood Road to reach in and unlock the door about 8:30 a.m.

The robber pulled out a revolver and demanded money. When the man said he had none, the robber hit him in the head with the gun and rifled his pants pockets for cash before, then fled on Brookwood Road. The gunman was described as white, 170 pounds, in his 20s and wearing a black leather jacket and jeans.

Police dog points out, bites burglary suspect

FERNDALE -- A police dog led officers to a suspected burglar hiding in a closet at Ferndale Elementary School, then bit the man in the groin and left leg, county police said.

William Howard Conner III, 30, of no fixed address, was charged with breaking and entering and trespassing, police said.

Police said they found a man hiding in the second-floor closet shortly before 3:05 a.m. The the man was found, "he moved and kicked," at which point the dog bit him twice, police said.

The man's wounds were not serious, and he was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released, police said.
