Baseball Atlanta Braves -- Announced that the following have agreed to one-year contracts: 2B Ramon Caraballo, who is expected to compete with Mark Lemke for the starting position in spring training; 3B Jose Oliva, OF Troy Hughes, P Michael Potts, P Dennis Burlingame and P Shawn Holman. All except Hughes and Burlingame are on the 40-man major-league roster.

Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to terms with C Joe Oliver on a one-year contract worth $1.2 million, a raise of $940,000.

Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to terms with P Mo Sanford on a one-year contract.

Houston Astros -- Agreed to terms with manager Art Howe on a one-year contract. Agreed to terms with P Mark Grant on a minor-league contract.

Montreal Expos -- Traded OF Todd Samples and P Ron Gerstein to the Milwaukee Brewers for IF Charlie Montoyo and 1B Oreste Marrero.

San Francisco Giants -- Named Bob Hartsfield coordinator of scouting, Luis Rosa coordinator of Latin American operations, Randy Wadill national cross-checker, Doug Mapson Western cross-checker, Mike Russell Eastern cross-checker and Bob Gardner scout of northern Florida and southern Georgia.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Named Steve McInerney trainer at Triple-A Syracuse.

Basketball NBA -- Suspended Phoenix Suns F Charles Barkley for one game and fined him $10,000 for arguing with an official after a game Jan. 18.

San Antonio Spurs -- Activated G Willie Anderson, who hasn't played since April after surgery to both legs.

USBL -- Granted a franchise to Westchester County, N.Y., to be based in New Rochelle and called the Westchester Stallions, effective for the 1993 season.

Westchester Stallions -- Named Stephen Post coach and Boston Keith and Julius Allen assistant coaches.

College Duquesne -- Announced they will leave the Midwestern Collegiate Conference and return to the Atlantic 10 Conference, effective July 1.

Hartford -- Announced men's and women's track and field will be a varsity sport, effective this semester.

Miami, Fla. -- Announced that defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has rejoined the team after resolving personal problems that prompted a voluntary three-month absence.

Missouri -- Named Merle "Skip" Hall defensive coordinator.

Nicholls State -- Named David Wilson assistant head coach and Ken Eddenfield wide receivers coach.

Oklahoma State -- Named David Browning offensive line coach.

Penn State -- Announced that Saturday men's basketball game against No. 14 Iowa was postponed because of the death of Hawkeyes F Chris Street.

San Jose State -- Named Tom Gadd defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

Tarleton State -- Named Ronnie Roemisch football coach.

Football Houston Oilers -- Extended the contract of offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.

Seattle Seahawks -- Removed Tom Flores as team president but announced he will continue as coach.

Hockey New York Islanders -- Sent C Iain Fraser to AHL Capital District.

Ottawa Senators -- Recalled D Gord Dineen from IHL San Diego. Recalled D Kent Paynter and RW Blair Atcheynum from AHL New Haven.

St. Louis Blues -- Assigned LW Dave Mackey to IHL Peoria.

Vancouver Canucks -- Sent C Stephane Morin to AHL Hamilton.

San Diego Gulls (IHL) -- Signed G Peter Ing, D Kord Cernich and F Dan Vincelette.

Soccer U.S. Soccer Federation -- Named Steve Sampson assistant coach of the U.S. national team.

World Cup Usa 1994 Inc. -- Announced the resignation of Steve Sampson, VP for competition management.
