January 19, 1993

A man and a woman were injured in a three-car accident las night on Route 140 at Center Street in Westminster, city police said.

The man and woman, who were riding in separate vehicles, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to Carroll County General Hospital for treatment after the 9:20 p.m. crash, police said.

Police didn't immediately release their identities. The woman was believed to be a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Officers at the scene said the driver of a Toyota pickup truck was northbound on Center Street, crossing Route 140, when the collision occurred. Witnesses said the driver of the pickup truck drove through the intersection on a red light, police said.

One vehicle -- a Chevrolet Blazer -- was knocked on its side by the force of the collision. The other vehicle involved was a compact car that was knocked onto an island at the center of the roadway.

Westminster police and fire departments responded to the accident.

Police rerouted westbound traffic on Route 140 north on Center Street and around Cranberry Mall while the accident scene was being cleared.
