The Harford Hurricanes swim team defeated Talbot County YMCA in a tight match, 351-338.

In under-8 competition, Stephanie Hightower, Betsy Belaguer, Stacy McNamee and Lauren Betzing combined for a freestyle relay win in 1 minute, 15.20 seconds.

Betzing finished first in the 25 freestyle (15.21), 25 breaststroke (23.29) and 25 backstroke (19.91); Belaguer won the 50 free (45.71) and Hightower won the 25 butterfly (21.02).

Kelly Roth and Caitlin Dorer teamed with McNamee and Belaguer to win the medley relay in 1:33.95.

The 9-10 freestyle relay team, composed of Kerry Rzpecki, Shelby Hughes, Erin Greason and Christine Betzing, won in 2:10.36. Rzpecki won the 50 free in 32.31 and Betzing won the 100 free in (1:06.91).

Kristi Eyler, Lisa Slopey, Julie Falkner and Rebecca Parrow won the medley relay in 2:40.49. Eyler won the 50 breast in 44.25.

In 11-12 competition, Amanda Sawyer, Cathy Gyolai, Kelly Knight and Carrie Kahmer won the individual medley relay in 2:14.24. Gyolai won the 50 (27.65) and 100 free (1:02.66). Sawyer won the 50 fly (39.69) and Knight won the 50 breaststroke (38.52).

In 13-14 action, Kathy Rising, Bethany Goodwin, Kate Eyler and Kim Kahmer won the individual medley relay in 2:04.95.

Also, Goodwin took the 50 free (26.94), Rising the 200 free (2:08.61) and the 100 fly (1:03.88), and Eyler the 100 breaststroke (1:17.69) and 100 back (1:07.38).

Nicole Interior, Jennifer Hightower, Corinne Sokolik and Kim McNamee won the freestyle relay.

In 15-18 competition, Amy Landis, Amanda Kahmer, Angela Cuneo and Betsy Steinen placed first in the freestyle relay (4:28.27); Cuneo in the 100 free (1:03.45) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.95); Landis in the 100 back (1:06.24) and 50 free (26.47); and Steinen in the IM (2:45.76).

Tammy Pillsbury, Steinen, Irene Cronk and Jenny Meyer won the medley relay in 5:12.79 with Pillsbury taking the 200 free (2:40.04) and Cronk the 100 fly (1:21.51).

In boys competition, Scott Magness, Ryan Hughes, David Beach and Andrew Long were victorious in the medley relay (1:24.86); Beach in the 25 free (15.91) and the 25 fly (18.04); Hughes in the 50 free (38.07) and Magness in the 25 back (21.25).

Chris Ouimet, Long, Hughes and Beach teamed to win the freestyle relay in 1:13.22.

L In 9-10 competition, David Long won the 100 free in 1:21.55.

In 13-14 competition, Brian Richardson swam the 100 fly in 1:14.31 for a first-place finish.

Soccer

* Under-10 -- The Edgewood Spirit tied Belcamp, 5-5, Thursday night in indoor soccer at the Maryland Sports Arena.

Jon Ryan scored the first two goals and Matt Gaines added another. Alex Hutton scored the final two goals for Edgewood, and shared time in goal with Gaines.

* Under-12 -- The Greater Harford Scorpions defeated Carroll Manor, 5-1, to kick off its second indoor soccer session at the Maryland Sports Arena.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Kopp anchored the strong Scorpions defensive effort, finishing with 24 saves.

Scoring for the Scorpions were Jason Kemper (two goals), Aaron Sherwood (one goal, one assist) Derrick Snyder and Tim Bowman (one goal) and Eric Syphard, Jordan Green and Mike Coughlin (one assist).

The Greater Harford Express raised its record to 4-0 with a 6-3 victory over the Dundalk Soccer Club at Du Burns Arena. The Express also had defeated West Inverness, WHC 79 Heat and the Hickory Lazers.

Express goals were scored by Scott Plattenberg (three), Jared Gurrera (two), and Mike Steinen (one). Jamie List finished with 15 saves.

The Greater Harford Rockets were edged by Carroll Manor, 3-2, at the Maryland Sports Arena.

Todd Ess and Greg Murray scored for the Rockets, while Adam Dorsey had one assist.

* Under-14 -- The Soccer Club of Baltimore Post 38 won the Indoor Holiday Tournament at the Du Burns Arena with a 10-0 win over the Perry Hall Soccer Club.

Adding to the team's offense were Bel Air players Jimmy Baker (two goals), John Gostomski and Matt Delany (one goal). Brian Malcolm, Eric Litras and Aaron Szager also played for the Post 38 Club team.

The Edgewood Spirit team defeated Fallston, 6-1, behind two goals from Justin Moe. Eric Dannenfelser also scored one goal.

Geoffrey Boecher, Chris Kronner and Barry Hammen (one goal, one assist) and Bruce Beegle (one goal) also scored.

Defensive efforts from Christian Rider and Craig Hammel, as well as goalkeepers Robert Gaines and Moe, kept Fallston to one score.

Girls soccer

* Under-10 -- The Fallston Orange Crush travel team recently won the Baltimore Metro Classic Tournament at Patterson Park with a 3-1 win over Mount Carmel in the final game.

The Orange Crush, which was undefeated in Baltimore Beltway League Action and did not give up a goal, was also unscored upon in winning the Sacred Heart Tournament.

The team defeated Immaculate Heart of Mary, 2-0, in the final.

Team members were: Mary Amasia, Mary Corkran, Danielle Garceau, Jessica Hammer, Caitlin Iwanowski, Alicia Meyers, Ann Novotny, Lauren O'Brien, Sarah Petrilli, Claire Runge, Elizabeth Saul, Katherine Saul, Katie Sayers, Kristen Simmers, Toni Tiburzi, Kathryn Zoli, Kacie Remeto, Lauren Kozycki.

Girls basketball

The Bel Air Recreation Council's girls basketball program began last Saturday. The scores:

* 9-10 -- Royals 27, Jaguars 12; Giants 12, Shooters 4; Tarpons 16, Koalas 10.

* 11-12 -- Marlins 13, Tornadoes 6; Leopards 8, Gators 6; Eagles 10, Mustangs 4; Monarchs 11, Sables 4; Warriors 10, Cardinals 7.

* 13-14 -- Terrapins 20, Sharks 17; Hurricanes 18, Eagles 17; Wildcats 33, Dolphins 23; Up-Chucks 23, Warriors 11; Ravens 20, Bulls 6.
