NCAA -- Chose Joseph Crowley of Nevada-Reno to replace Judy Sweet as president.

MAAC -- Announced that Georgetown, St. John's, Canisius, Iona, St. Peter's and Siena switch from Division III football to Division I-AA football and compete in a new six-team league that will have no athletic scholarships.

CFL -- Announced that Sacramento, Calif., franchise will be known as the Gold Miners.
