Governor proclaims Wonder Dog Day

January 17, 1993

Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer recently issued a proclamation making Dec. 24, 1992 Josh, the Wonder Dog Day, for the second year in a row.

Josh, the hero of a series of popular children's books by Pasadena author Richard L. Stack, tours schools around the country spreading the message of self-belief to children.

Mr. Stack started the series of books, including "The Doggonest Puppy Love," "The Doggonest Vacation," and "The Doggonest Christmas" after seeing a Christmas television program that he thought gave children a terrible message.

In 1989, he closed his law practice and began writing a book about Josh, a stray who wandered into his life in 1985 suffering from a gunshot wound. They now travel trying to make Josh the most petted dog in the world.
