Fells Point to be a staging area for theater center

The Ashling Theatre Center, a non-profit studio focused on the development of new theater work, will operate a full-time academy and workshop at 1608 Eastern Ave. in Fells Point.

The center will offer an actors' clinic, playwrights' workshops, readings and open rehearsals, and a new work/cabaret showcase series. Courses include Acting Basics, Auditioning Professionally, Playwrighting, Acting for Teens and American Storytelling. Classes meet weekly for six weeks. Call (410) 563-0507.

Magazine name-change

Maryland Musician Magazine, the mid-Atlantic's only music monthly, has changed its name to Music Monthly, a Maryland Musician publication, beginning with its 100th issue this month.

Begun as a publication about local rock and roll, it has expanded to cover other popular music. The magazine plans to present more live stage reviews and to broaden its coverage of national artists. It is free at numerous locations. Call (410) 444-3776.

'Misbegotten' tickets

A limited number of $7 tickets are available for performances of "A Moon for the Misbegotten," running at Center Stage through Jan. 31. Tickets must be purchased in person. Call (410) 332-0033.

Theater auditions

* The Colonial Players of Annapolis will have auditions for "Lettice and Lovage" at 2:30 p.m. today and at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Players Annex, 2132 Renard Court, Annapolis. * AXIS Theatre will have auditions for "Largo Desolato" by Vaclav Havel from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow and Tuesday at the theater, 3600 Clipper Mill Road. The production calls for nine men ages 20 to 50, and three women ages 18 to 40. For details, call (410) 727-6010.

* The Vagabond Players will have auditions for "I Hate Hamlet" at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and Tuesday at the theater, 806 S. Broadway. The production calls for two men ages 20 to 30, two women ages 20 to 30 and one woman in her mid-50s or 60s. Call (410) 563-9135.

* The Young People's Players will have auditions for "Winnie the Pooh" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 25 and 26 at F. Scott Black's Towsontowne Theatre, 7800 York Road. The production calls for children ages 5 to 18. Call (410) 321-6595.
