Rose Mascari, Cherelle DeGarmo and Michelle Stevenson, Hereford High School seniors, have been recognized as outstanding youth and were honored at a recent dinner by the Greater Jacksonville Optimist Club.

Judith Levin, assistant professor of chemistry at Goucher College, has received a $30,500 Cottrell College Science Award through the Research Corporation of Tucson, Ariz. The grant will help support her research in genetics.

Maria Fajkowski, a sophomore at the Catholic High School of Baltimore, was chosen to represent the school at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY) Leadership Seminar.

William Johnson of Parkton, professor of biological sciences at Goucher College, has been named to the college's Lilian Welsh Professorship.

The Baltimore City Medical Society Foundation awarded 10 scholarships to Baltimore City medical school students for the coming year. They are Jeanette White, Jeffrey Wilkinson, and Paul Brettschneider, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Michael Ilagan, Riva Kamat, and Deborah Boan, Meharry Medical College; Timothy Beittel, University of Rochester Medical School; Vinay Kamat, Medical College of Pennsylvania; Neeraj Sachdeva, New York Medical College and Todd Tenenholz, University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Six graduating seniors from each of the Carroll County high schools and from the Carroll County Career and Technology Center were selected to receive a Commissioners' Student Leadership Scholarship award for 1992-'93 academic year. They are Nichole M. Brecker, Liberty High School; Laurie A. Fender, Francis Scott Key High School; Christopher R. Kulla, South Carroll High School; Nicole C. Maus, North Carroll High School; Moonjung Nam, Westminster High School and Staci D. Ridgely, Career and Technology Center. Students received these scholarships with expectation that they would be registered for at least 12 credits during spring and fall semesters at Carroll Community College.
