Lecture to examine the Maryland lottery
Professor Alan F. Karr will present a lecture titled "Buy the Number? A Probalistic Analysis of the Maryland State Lottery," at 2 p.m. today at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
Mr. Karr, a professor of statistics and biostatistics at thUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will use the theories of probability, statistics, economics, utility and human behavior.

9700 block of Washington Blvd.: Someone jimmied a door lock to a 1989 Volkswagen Fox between 8:20 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. Wednesday and stole a $189 radar detector.
9100 block of Bourbon St.: A window screen was torn and a window pried during an attempt break-in about 3 a.m. Wednesday. Police arrested Darrell Duane Drapeau, 24, of the 9100 block of Bourbon St., and charged him with attempted breaking and entering, destruction of property and being a rogue and vagabond.
