BALTIMORE CITY

* THEFT/ARREST: Western District -- Police arrested a man Wednesday who attempted to leave the Rite Aid pharmacy at the Mondawmin Mall without paying for medicinal products.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 3600 block of Gelston Drive was robbed of her coat, cigarettes and a social service card in the 1000 block of Mosher St. Wednesday by a couple who assaulted her.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- A gunman robbed a resident of the 900 block of N. Monroe St. of his Notre Dame jacket in the 900 block of N. Carey St. Wednesday afternoon.

* ROBBERY TRY: Western District -- A driver for United Parcel Service was in the 1800 block of Lorman St. Wednesday afternoon when a man attempted to rob him while striking him with his fist. The victim fought the man off but suffered a possible broken nose.

* ASSAULT: Western District -- Police arrested a man who pointed a .22-caliber handgun at a resident of the 2400 block of Arunah Ave. during an incident at her home Wednesday and threatened to shoot her.

* BURGLARY: Western District -- Computer equipment valued at more than $15,000 was stolen from the Lutheran Learning Center in the 700 block of Ashburton St. between Jan. 7 and Wednesday.

* BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone entered Gilmor Liquors in the 600 block of N. Gilmor St. Wednesday and stole several cartons of cigarettes and liquor. Later, police arrested a suspect in the case and were holding him at the station pending burglary and theft charges.

* ASSAULT/ARREST: Western District -- Police arrested a man who attacked a resident of the 1800 block of W. North Ave. near his home Wednesday and cut him with a broken bottle.

* THEFT: Western District -- Someone stole a check for nearly $75 from the mailbox of a resident of the 600 block of N. Gilmor St. Wednesday.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 100 block of N. Wheeler Ave. was robbed of her purse containing a small sum of money Wednesday morning while she walked in the 2400 block of W. Baltimore St.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- Two men attacked a resident of the 3500 block of Virginia Ave. in the 1500 block of Retreat St. Wednesday and robbed her of property of unknown value.

* AUTO THEFT: Western District -- A 1987 Pontiac with state license plates SWX-834 was stolen from the 900 block of N. Gilmor St. Wednesday.

* BURGLARY/ARREST: Western District -- A 29-year-old resident the 1100 block of W. Fayette St. was arrested Wednesday shortly after a man entered a home in the 600 block of N. Arlington Ave. with intent to steal property.

* ROBBERY: Central District -- An 11-year-old boy was riding his bike in the 800 block of Park Ave. Wednesday afternoon when he was assaulted by a man who knocked him off the bike and rode away. The bike was valued at $130.

* ASSAULT: Central District -- A resident of the 800 block of

Orchard St. was struck in the head with a broken bottle by a man she knows during an incident at her home Wednesday night. Later, police arrested a suspect in the case and were holding him at the station pending assault charges.

* ROBBERY TRY: Central District -- A man attempted to rob a 22-year-old Brooklyn woman of her purse in the 100 block of E. Redwood St. about 2 a.m. yesterday but fled when she cried out. Before fleeing, the man struck the woman in the face.

* THEFT: Northern District -- Nearly $500 was stolen from a china closet inside a house in the 800 block of E. 41st St. Wednesday.

* THEFT: Northern District -- Two extension ladders were stolen from outside a house in the 300 block of W. 30th St. Wednesday. Later, police recovered one of the ladders.

* THEFT: Northern District -- Someone stole a multispeed bicycle valued at $400 from the patio of a house in the 300 block of Homewood Ave. Wednesday.

* BURGLARY: Northern District -- A telephone and an answering machine were stolen from a house in the 300 block of Homeland South Way between Tuesday and Wednesday by someone who entered by breaking a window.

* THEFT: Northern District -- Someone entered a car parked in the 500 block of E. 34th St. Tuesday and stole several tools.

* THEFT: Northern District -- Stereo equipment and credit cards, all valued at more than $800, were stolen from a 1983 BMW Tuesday while it was parked in the 3700 block of N. Charles St.

* BURGLARY: Northern District -- Stereo equipment valued at more than $800 was stolen from a house in the 1000 block of Woodson Road Wednesday by someone who entered through the front door.

* SHOOTING: Southern District -- A Dorton Court man, 20, was listed in critical condition at Harbor Hospital Center after being shot in the left arm, chest and side Wednesday night in the 2400 block of Kermit Court. Police know of no motive for the shooting and made no arrest.

* SHOOTING: Southern District -- A man with a gun shot a Fairhaven Avenue man in the left side, left arm and leg about 6 a.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of S. Hanover St. The victim was listed in fair condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
