Naval Academy fills 2 posts in Brigade of Midshipmen

The Naval Academy is filling the top two command positions of its 4,300-member Brigade of Midshipmen with Geoffrey Royal of Houston and John Rudella of Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. Royal will be brigade commander, responsible for the daily military activities and performance of the brigade. The position is a key link in the chain of command between the midshipmen and top academy officials.

Mr. Rudella will be brigade executive officer, assisting in daily brigade operation, overseeing the regimental staffs and meeting with academy guests, among other duties.

Mr. Royal, an electrical engineering major, is the second African-American to lead the Brigade of Midshipmen. Mr. Rudella is an honor student in aeronautical engineering.

Both are midshipmen first class.
