MLB -- Announced that the major league owners unanimously approved the sale of the San Francisco Giants to a group of investors led by Peter Magowan.

MLB Executive Council -- Announced Jackie Autry of California; Bill Bartholomay of Atlanta; Paul Beeston of Toronto; Doug Danforth of Pittsburgh; Fred Kuhlman of St. Louis; Carl Pohlad of Minnesota; Hayward Sullivan of Boston; and Fred Wilpon of the New York Mets, have been named to the search committee for a commissioner.

Orioles -- Agreed to terms with P Mark Williamson on a one-year contract.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Agreed to terms with SS Kevin Elster on a minor league contract.

Montreal Expos -- Named Joe Ferrone Midwest scout and John Hughes scout for Northern California.

New York Yankees -- Named Rick Cerone advance scout; Jake Gibbs bullpen coach; and Glenn Sherlock manager of Tampa of the Gulf Coast League and minor league catching instructor.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Signed P Scott Terry and P Drew Hall to minor league contracts.

Prince William Cannons (Carolina League) -- Named Thomas Hillman manager; Mark Shiflett pitching coach; and Brian Milner coach.


Atlanta Hawks -- Activated F Dominique Wilkins from the injured list. Placed C Blair Rasmussen on the injured list.

Chicago Bulls -- Signed F Joe Courtney to a 10-day contract.

Philadelphia 76ers -- Activated C Andrew Lang from the injured list.

Portland Trail Blazers -- Activated G Clyde Drexler. Placed reserve G Delaney Rudd on the injured list.


NCAA -- Announced that Oral Roberts University, which joined the NAIA in 1989 because of financial problems, will rejoin the NCAA as a full member next year.


Chicago Bears -- Named Rod Graves director of college scouting and Bobby Riggle regional scout.

CFL -- Awarded franchises to San Antonio and Sacramento for the 1993 season.


New York Islanders -- Recalled LW Rich Kromm from Capital District (AHL).
