If the nasty weather over the past few days is any indication, winter definitely is here to stay. I wish it wasn't here at all because I just can't deal with ice and snow. Hurry summer, when the humidity hovers at 98 percent and the temperature at 95 degrees. Now, that's what I like.

Crofton, get ready for an invasion by French high school students April 8-16. The youngsters need places to stay. Valerie Humen, community coordinator for International Education, is looking for families to play host to the students. The week coincides with spring vacation in county schools. Sign up for the new winter session of Us Kids, a support group for children ages 6 to 13 who are experiencing family separation because of their parents' divorce or remarriage. The session meets Monday evenings at a new location, All Saints Lutheran Church in Bowie. Parental participation is required. Registration ends Jan. 22. It's nearly time for the Arundel High School Boosters' annual Bull and Oyster Roast, scheduled for Feb. 20. Dinner will be served from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight. Beer and setups will be provided, but BYOB. Jerry and the Heartaches will provide the music. Tickets are $22. Win some cash at the gambling wheel or take a chance on a raffle for a basket of cheer. The annual Crofton Civic Association's January general membership meeting is planned for 7:30 p.m., Jan. 25 at Crofton Elementary School. Members will discuss the town budget.

The Discovery Shop, which sells new and gently used men's, women's and children's clothing, needs donations. Drop off items at the shop in Didonato Plaza, 360 Ritchie Highway. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. For information, call 544-0568.
