Finksburg man charged in stabbing of spouse

A continuing domestic dispute that escalated over the weekend resulted in a Finksburg man being charged with assault with intent to murder or maim his wife.

Alfred J. Jackson, 36, of the 3200 block of Sykesville Road, was arrested Saturday after his wife, Barbara Ann, was taken to Carroll County General Hospital with a stab wound in the upper left side of her back.

According to Maryland state police, Ms. Jackson, 40, said she and her husband were fighting at 9 p.m. Friday when Mr. Jackson took out a buck knife and stabbed her.

Police responded to a call from the hospital at 4:45 a.m. Saturday. It is standard procedure for the hospital to inform police of such wounds, police officials said.

Ms. Jackson was treated at the hospital and released.

"Apparently, it's [the fighting] been an ongoing thing for weeks and weeks," said Tfc. Edward J. Fox, who investigated the incident. "They've been fighting constantly about everything and anything."

Trooper Fox said alcohol was a factor in the incident, but police are unsure to what extent.

Mr. Jackson -- who was arrested, charged and taken to the Carroll County Detention Center -- was released Saturday on $50,000 bond, officials there said.
