Arcadia woman seeks permission to build pier

An Arcadia woman is seeking permission from the Army Corps of Engineers to build a 50-foot pier and install erosion controls along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline.

Mildred Blumenthal, the owner of a home in the 300 block of Bayfront Drive, wants to construct 98 feet of timber bulkhead, timber cribs around existing jetties, place 49 feet of large stone, or riprap, in front of an existing bulkhead and remove an 8-by-3-foot jetty.

Ms. Blumenthal also wants to build a 50-by-10-foot pier with a 10-by-10-foot "L" section at the end.

The corps, which is reviewing the request, will accept public comments until Jan. 25 before ruling.

For more information, call Jeff Trulick, with the Army Corps, at 962-4252.

* Pasadena: A resident of the 100 block of Sandy Beach Drive told police someone broke into his 1987 Chevrolet truck that was parked in front of his home Thursday and took tools.
