Name: Catharine von Schwarz, 15, of Annapolis.

School: St. Mary's High School.

Accomplishments/Interests: Although Catharine enjoys excellent academic standing with a 3.9 grade point average and is involved in her school's Student Government Association, her real passions are swimming and water polo.

She is a member of the Annapolis Water Polo Club, the Naval Academy Junior Swim Team and the National Junior Women's Water Polo Team.

As the youngest player on the National Junior B Team, she recently returned from a trip to Brazil, where she played in an international water polo tournament.

She has since been selected to go to Europe this summer to be a member of the National Junior A team. In the meantime, she will attend the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., in March to prepare for the European excursion, where she will travel to England, the Netherlands and Germany.

The Annapolis Water Polo Club is ranked second in the nation in the 17-and-under, and 15-and-under age groups after last summer's competition in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. As a result of competing in both age groups, Catharine was chosen All-American.

In addition to the competitions she participates in during the summer, Catharine works with younger children on her swim team.

Although her plans for the future are not definite, Catharine wants to go to college and continue swimming and playing water polo.

Her dream is to compete in the Olympics. Although women's water polo is not a part of the games, efforts are under way to have it included.
