Two honored for work in VIPS program

At a recent awards ceremony in Pikesville, participants in the Maryland State Police Volunteer in Police Support (VIPS) program were honored.

Howard W. Ridgley and Wilbur B. Lanier, both of Linthicum, were awarded Good Citizen Awards for donating 300 hours of their time in six months at the Airport Division located at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Col. Larry W. Tolliver, state police superintendent, said, "In this time of hiring freezes, budget constraints and personnel shortages, the Volunteers in Police Support fill a much needed gap in staffing services."

Volunteers in the support program assist police with everything from office and clerical skills to community outreach programs. Anyone interested in joining can call 653-4278.
