Forest Hill Force tops Fallston, 7-2, for under-12 indoor soccer championship

The Forest Hill Force capped an undefeated (6-0-2) indoor soccer season with a 7-2 win over Fallston to win the Wednesday night under-12 championship at the Maryland Sports Arena.

Daniel Watts led the Force with two goals. Eric Blom, Justin Collins, Eric Duncan, Mike Duncan and Greg Spalding also scored. Other team members include Anthony Collurafici, Pete Golumbek, Pat Jackson, P. J. Kline, Danny Martin, Dave Michaels and Kevin Voelker.

In the past year, the Force has won three league championships and been runner-up once, compiling a 27-1-5 record.

* In other under-12 indoor action, the Genstar Booters defeated Essex, 8-4, Wednesday night.

Alex Markiewicz scored a hat trick, Steve Adolph scored twice, and Chris Swec, Brent Haberkam and Giovanni Julian each scored once. Steve Markiewicz (one) and Julian (two) had assists.

The Booters (6-1-1) were led on defense by Chris Johnson, Alexander Ioannidis, Adam Limbach, Dan Magee and Anthony Huczek. Jarod Dennis and Ryan Nayden were the team's goalkeepers.

* The Greater Harford Club Scorpions defeated Essex, 5-0, in recent indoor soccer action. Jim Kopp had 20 saves for his first shutout.

The Scorpion goals were by Derrick Snyder (two), J. W. Williams, James Sonnichsen and Jason Kemper, one apiece. Assists were by Eric Syphard and Jordan Green (two), Mike Coughlin and Eric Heisey, one each.

Also contributing were Tim Bowman, Tony Joynes, Brian Dempsey and Larry Stevenson.

* The Abingdon Strikers (7-0) defeated Churchville, 3-1, in under-10 indoor soccer behind strong defensive efforts from Brian Grahe, Sammy Mogavero and Mike Pacifico.

Greg Rest kicked in a loose ball for the Striker's first goal, then Danny Meyers scored, assisted by John Blessing. Jeremy Fefel scored the third goal unassisted.

Will Koester, Matt Pietrowski, Eric Siegel and Fefel split time as goalkeeper for Abingdon.

* Edgewood defeated Forest Hill, 4-2, behind a two-goal performance from striker Brian Windsor.

Forest Hill led early, 1-0, but Edgewood rebounded to take a 2-1 lead into the second half, and led 4-1 until late in the fourth quarter.

Other Edgewood goals were scored by John Ryan and Matt Green. Brian Dannenfelser had two assists.

F: Alex Hutton and Matt Gaines were in goal for Edgewood.

Swimming

Edgewood Aquanaut swimmers that met "C" qualifying times competed against swimmers from 24 other swim clubs in a meet at Calvert Hall last Sunday.

mers, who compete approximately once a month, improved their times in at least one event from their last competition. Other swimmers were competing in certain events for the first time.

In the boys open competition, Liam Smith completed the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 20.59 seconds. He also swam the 200 backstroke in 2:42.27, the 100 backstroke in 1:12.20 and the 200 individual medley in 2:34.08.

In boys 11-12 competition, Chris McMillan swam the 50 butterfly in 42.31, a four-second improvement. He also competed in the 50 backstroke (42.52) and the 200 individual medley (3:14.38).

Kevin Kenney competed in the 100 butterfly (1:28.05), the 50 back

stroke (38.62) and the 50 freestyle (31.32).

In girls open competition, Jennifer Beall completed the 200 freestyle in 2:28.56. She also competed in the 200 backstroke (2:57.19) and the 100 freestyle (1:08.00). Julie Seifert swam the 100 butterfly (1:19.85) and the 100 free (1:07.94).

In 11-12 action, Erin Beemer completed the 50 freestyle in 41.19. She finished the 200 backstroke in 3:07.74 and the 100 freestyle in 1:22.69.

Deidre Shandle competed in the 200 backstroke (3:00.57), 100 IM (1:19.71) and 100 butterfly (1:28.67).

Sandy Seufert finished the 100 butterfly in 1:48.71, the 100 freestyle in 1:50.25 and the 100 backstroke in 1:37.92.
