Betty Thompson, a Bryn Mawr School biology teacher, was recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement by the Commonwealth Partnership for her outstanding contributions to science education.

Rahel Teferi, who received her B.A. degree from Goucher College in May, has been elected to the college's Phi Beta Kappa chapter. She was also awarded the Class of 1905 Fellowship and the Gairdner Moment Prize in Biology for superior achievement in biological sciences.

Jocelyn Szczepaniak-Gillece, a freshman at Mount de Sales Academy, won first prize in a short story contest sponsored by Disney Adventures magazine.

Rhonda S. Martin, daughter of Howard and Sharon Martin of Hampstead, has been awarded the Board of Trustees Scholarship at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry of Philadelphia.

Gregory S. Tully of Towson, a sophomore at Washington and Lee University, was recently inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for students who complete their freshman years with superior academic records.

Dr. Constantine Vaporis, assistant professor of history at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar's Award to do research in Kochi, Japan during the 1993-'94 academic year.

Kathy Huculak of Belcamp has been awarded the Yorkewood Woman's Club Scholarship at Essex Community College.

Roxanna Roberts of Edgemere has been awarded the William H. Haussner Memorial Scholarship at Essex Community College.
