International Motor Sports Association -- Named Daniel D. Greenwood president and CEO.

NASCAR -- Announced that Tim Brewer, who has led Winston Cup teams to 53 victories and two championships, has been named crew chief for the cars driven by rookie Bobby Labonte.


Atlanta Braves -- Designated P Dennis Burlingame for assignment.

Boston Red Sox -- Named Ray Fagnant full-time scout.

Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to terms with P Scott Ruskin on a one-year contract.

Detroit Tigers -- Agreed to terms with SS Travis Fryman on a one-year contract.

Houston Astros -- Agreed to terms with OF Kevin Bass and SS Jose Uribe on one-year contracts. Invited IF Jack Daugherty to spring training as a non-roster player.

New York Yankees -- Named Bill Livesey VP of player development and scouting; Kevin Elfering coordinator of scouting; and Eddie Robinson assistant coordinator of scouting.

San Diego Padres -- Agreed to terms with P Wally Whitehurst and P Kerry Taylor on one-year contracts.

San Francisco Giants -- Named Brian Sabean assistant to the GM and VP of scouting and player personnel, and Tony Siegle VP of baseball administration and operations. Did not renew the contract of play-by-play man Ron Fairly; replaced him with Ted Robinson.


Dallas Mavericks -- Activated C Sean Rooks from the injured list. Waived C Walter Palmer.

Orlando Magic -- Activated F Terry Catledge. Placed F Jerry Reynolds on the injured list.

San Antonio Spurs -- Waived C William Bedford.

CBA -- Suspended F Ricky Calloway for failure to abide by the league's substance-abuse policy.


Austin Peay -- Announced F Malcolm McCormick is transferring to West Georgia.

Baylor -- Named Bob Cope defensive secondary coach.

Kansas State -- Announced the resignation of athletic director Milt Richards, effective immediately.


Chicago Bears -- Fired coach Mike Ditka and announced he will remain as consultant.

British Columbia Lions (CFL) -- Named Dave Ritchie head coach.


ABC Sports -- Announced it is adding touring pro Jerry Pate to its on-course announcing team and touring pro Peter Jacobsen to the booth with Brent Musburger.


Pittsburgh Penguins -- Assigned C Martin Straka and LW Jeff Daniels to IHL Cleveland.

Quebec Nordiques -- Recalled LW Niclas Andersson from AHL Halifax.

Binghamton Rangers (AHL) -- Reassigned D Brad Tiley to IHL Phoenix.
