Woman hospitalized after accident

A 33-year-old Westminster woman was being treated in the emergency room at Carroll County General Hospital last night after apparently blacking out at the wheel of her car and hitting a tractor-trailer, city police said.

Tina Marie Ferguson, of the 1600 block of Terrace Drive, was heading south on Railroad Avenue in her 1983 Mercury at about 3:20 p.m. yesterday when she stopped behind a tractor-trailer at the traffic light at Main Street.

Witnesses said she apparently lost consciousness, and her car drifted into the back of an 18-wheeler driven by Larry Branson, 42, of Benton Harbor, Mich., Officer Mike Bible reported.

Ms. Ferguson's 6-year-old son, Timothy, who was a passenger in her car, and Mr. Branson were not injured, he said.

The only damage to the car was a cracked headlight; the truck was not damaged, the officer said.

Ms. Ferguson was taken to CCGH by a Westminster Volunteer Fire Department ambulance and was being evaluated last night.
