Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to terms with IF Bill Pecota on a two-year contract.

Orioles -- Signed P Ben McDonald to a one-year contract worth $1.225 million, plus incentives.

Chicago White Sox -- Agreed to terms with OF Ellis Burks on a one-year contract.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Agreed to terms with OF Lonnie Smith and 1B Ben Shelton on one-year contracts. Designated Shelton for assignment.


St. Joseph's -- Announced G J. J. Watters has left the basketball team and withdrawn from school.

Temple -- Announced that C Frazier Johnson has been declared academically ineligible and has been dismissed from school.


Houston Oilers -- Fired defensive coordinator Jim Eddy and defensive backs coach Pat Thomas.


NHL -- Suspended former New York Rangers coach Roger Neilson and Winnipeg RW Tie Domi and fined each $500 for a premeditated fight between Domi and Bob Probert of Detroit on Dec. 2 while Domi was still with the Rangers.

New York Islanders -- Assigned C Iain Fraser to Capital District (AHL).

New York Rangers -- Fired Roger Neilson, coach. Named Ron Smith interim coach.

Binghamton Rangers (AHL) -- Named Colin Campbell coach.
