3 armed men rob Sykesville couple at home

Maryland State Police are still seeking three men wanted in the armed robbery of a Sykesville couple last Wednesday evening.

Earl and Joyce Vanhorn of Old Washington Road told police they were surprised by the trio upon arriving home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The assailants, who demanded money and valuables, tied the couple's hands before searching the house for the money and firearms. They also stole a brown 1988 Chevrolet Suburban used in the escape.

Police were unable to furnish definitive descriptions of the men because of the masks, but continue to investigate the robbery.

Each of the men had a handgun, police said.


* Eldersburg: Gamber, Sykesville and Winfield responded to a house fire on Cherry Tree Lane at 7:36 p.m. Tuesday. Units were out for 41 minutes.

Sykesville responded to a wash detail at 11:39 a.m. last Wednesday on Route 26. Units were out for 26 minutes.

* Sykesville: Units from Sykesville and West Friendship of Howard County responded to analarm on Main Street at 1:39 p.m. last Thursday. Units were out for about 20 minutes.

* Rolling Hills: Units from Sykesville responded to Shefield Road for an investigation at 10:38 a.m. Friday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

* White Rock: Units from Sykesville responded to a fire alarm on Rockvale Road at 6:40 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 35 minutes.
