SHOWS

Today and Sunday: 16th Annual Chesapeake Sportfishing Show at the National Guard Armory on Hudson Street in Annapolis. Tackle sales, bass guides, clubs, charter captains from the Mid-Atlantic region, seminars on freshwater, tidal and offshore fishing. Show opens at 10 a.m. both days. Admission is $5 for 12 and over; 12 and under admitted free. For more information, call (410) 841-6974.

Friday-Sunday: Bass Expo '93 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Displays of bass fishing equipment, boats and gear. Bassmasters/Rubbermaid Maryland CastingKids competition and finals. How-to seminars by regional and national pros. The show opens at 2 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 to 14. Jan. 20-24: Greater Philadelphia Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show at the Fort Washington (Pa.) Expo Center. Weekday hours are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.; show opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. For more information, call (603) 431-4315.

Jan. 22-24: BASSARAMA fishing show, Virginia State Fairgrounds, Richmond. Major exhibitors of tackle, boats and gear, seminars by fishing pros. Admission is $6, $1 for kids under 16 and kids under 12 admitted free.

FISHING

Wednesday: Monthly meeting of the Free State Flyfishers at Hillsmere Elementary School in Annapolis, 7:30 p.m. Speaker is scheduled to be Robert Bachman, director of Department of Natural Resources' Fish, Heritage and Wildlife Conservation. The public is welcome.

Jan. 19: Meeting of Maryland Chapter of Trout Unlimited at IOOF Hall, 511 York Road, 7:30 p.m. Robert Bachman of the DNR will speak about results of electroshocking survey of the Gunpowder and the upcoming season. The public is welcome.

Jan. 20: Free State Flyfishers fly-tying class at Hillsmere Elementary School in Annapolis, 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome.

Jan. 27: Monthly meeting of Maryland Fly Anglers at the Ridge Garden Apartments Clubhouse on Old Harford Road, 7 p.m. Speaker will be Joe Bruce on fishing with light lines. The public is welcome.

Jan. 29-31: 1993 Fly Fishing Show at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, N.J. Event is billed as the world's largest show for fly fishermen.

April 4: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament Trail event on Potomac River.

May 1-2: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Mr. Bass event at Deep Creek Lake.

May 21-22: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation S.Q.T. event on Potomac River.

June 20: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament Trail event at Deep Creek Lake.

July 11: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament Trail event on Upper Bay tributaries.

Aug. 1: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Father/Son, Adult/Youth event on Potomac River.

Aug. 15: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament Trail event on Potomac River.

Aug. 22: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Jr. Mr. Bass event on Potomac River.

Sept. 12: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament Trail event at Deep Creek Lake.

Sept. 19: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Junior team championship on the upper Potomac River.

Oct. 9-10: Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation Classic, site to be determined.

HUNTING

Through tomorrow: Muzzleloader season for deer.

Through Saturday: Duck season, three per day under proper guidelines.

Through Jan. 20: Canada goose season, two per day.

Through Feb. 10: Snow goose season, four per day.

BOATING

Jan. 13: Open-boat sailing lecture by Webb Chiles at the Annapolis Marriott Hotel, 7:30 p.m. Chiles set the record for open boat sailing with a voyage of more than 20,000 miles in the Chidiock Tichborne. Tickets are $10. For more information, call (800) 937-BOAT.
