Michigan's key players: QB Elvis Grbac (112 of 169 for 1,465 yards, 15 TDs) led the NCAA with a 154.2 rating. TB Tyrone Wheatley (1,122 yards on 170 carries, 10 TDs) leads the Wolverines in rushing, followed by Jesse Johnson (792 yards on 155 carries, four TDs). WR Derrick Alexander leads the Wolverines with 47 receptions for 722 yards and 11 TDs.

Washington's key players: QB Mark Brunell (109 of 189 for 1,301 yards, five TDs) starts for Washington after splitting the season with Billy Joe Hobert, who is ineligible after being suspended for breaking NCAA rules by taking a loan from a booster. Brunell leads Washington with eight rushing TDs, and carried 68 times for 197 yards. His top target is WR Joe Kralik (33 receptions for 487 yards, three TDs), and TB Napoleon Kaufman has rushed for 1,045 yards on 162 carries, with six TDs.
