8 compete for board seats of community association

Eight candidates are competing for six seats on the board odirectors of the Glen Burnie Improvement Association.

The election will be at the association's Jan. 12 meeting.

The candidates, who were nominated at the association's Dec. 8 meeting, include four incumbents for the two-year terms. They are: Harold Bryant, Charles Cusick, Kathy DeGrange and John Scherer.

New candidates are: Sylvia Day, Gary Falls, Richard Gross and Chuck Kiessling.

Anyone who has been a member of the association for at least three months will be eligible to vote in the election.

18-year-old charged in purse-snatching

An 18-year-old Glen Burnie man has been charged with pushing a woman and stealing her purse at a library.

Joshua Kendrick Smith, of the 300 block of Stanley Ave., was charged with robbery and theft.

County police said Elizabeth Ann Fletcher, 29, was in the North County Public Library, in the 1000 block of East Way, about 8:30 Tuesday night when she was attacked.

She notified the police, who found the suspect at a nearby street corner. A search revealed the woman's checkbook, identifications cards and other property, police said.


*Glen Burnie: Burglars broke into an apartment in the 400 block of Old Stage Road Saturday night and took a video cassette recorder valued at $199.

*Glen View Garden: A resident of the 7900 block of Nol Park Court reported to police that someone stole television and stereo equipment from her apartment Friday night. The property was valued at $1,165.

*Oakleaf Villas: A resident reported to police that someone broke into her 1987 Toyota, which was parked in the 300 block of Juneberry Way Monday, and took stereo equipment valued at $500.
