Teen-ager killed in two-car crash

A teen-ager was killed and another critically injured in a car accident yesterday in Pasadena.

County police said a car driven by Betty Jo Hinkle, 18, of the 1200 block of Doris Ave. in Pasadena, crossed the center line of Bayside Beach Road, near Bellhaven Road, and hit an oncoming car shortly before 9 a.m.

A passenger in the Ms. Hinkle's car, Rachel Lynn Martin, 18, of the 2200 block of Lake Drive in Pasadena, was taken by

ambulance to

North Arundel Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:03 a.m.

Ms. Hinkle taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition last night.

The driver of the other car, David Conrad Sylvia, was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released, police reported.

County waiting for state money

The ball fields and playgrounds at Tick Neck Park may be complete, but the county still is waiting for the state to ante up its share of the $1.5 million construction cost.

HTC The county built the 24-acre park next to Northeast High School expecting a $568,700 grant from the state Department of Natural Resources.

But Program Open Space money has been scarce as lawmakers cut its funds in recent years to balance the state budget.

Delegate Charles W. "Stokes" Kolodziejski, a Carvel Beach Democrat, announced last week that the DNR has allocated the money. But the grant still hinges on approval by the three members of the state Board of Public Works.

The park, which opened in the spring, includes a bike path, playground and parking lot.

Mr. Kolodziejski, former County Councilman Edward C. "Buddy" Ahern and other Pasadena political leaders lobbied for the park for several years.
