Woman, 33, dies of injuries sustained in one-car crash

A 33-year-old Baltimore woman whose car rolled over after sliding off an icy stretch of Liberty Road Monday morning has died.

Donna Marie Walton, of the 3500 block of Dudley Ave., was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. Monday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Ms. Walton was the 31st person to be killed this year in a Carroll County traffic accident.

State police said Ms. Walton was driving a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle east on Liberty Road about 8 a.m. when it slid across the westbound lane near the entrance to the Lakeview Cemetery. The car went into a ditch, hit a power pole, then flipped over.

Create a mini-forest at Piney Run Center

Piney Run Nature Center, at 30 Martz Road, Eldersburg, invites everyone 16 or older to participate in an unusual but "natural" program.

From 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 12, participants will construct miniature nature gardens.

Using a woody tree fungus or shelf fungus at the base, a wall-mounted garden of mosses and dried plants can be assembled. Miniature wildlife forms will complete the effect of a small-scale forest scene.

Registration is required, and there is a fee of $8 for nature center members and $10 for nonmembers.

7+ Information and registration: 795-6043.

* Eldersburg: Sykesville, Gamber and Liberty Road, Randallstown and Owings Mills of Baltimore County responded to a furnace fire on Liberty Road at 4:59 p.m. Monday. Units were on the scene for about 22 minutes.
