Columbia center slates multimedia art exhibit

The Columbia Art Center in the Village of Long Reach will launch the New Year with an exhibit of multimedia creations by the New Arts Alliance, a diverse group of artists who live in Howard County.

The show, "Masquerade," will run from Jan. 7 to Feb. 6 and will feature juried works that reflect various mask-making techniques well as masquerade themes.

To launch the gallery show, a free, opening reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Columbia Art Center. The community is invited.

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

* Kings Contrivance: 8600 block of Guilford Road, Kings Contrivance Village Center: A $100 Realistic 8-inch speaker was stolen from a 1985 Toyota 4x4 truck between midnight and 2 a.m. Thursday.

7200 block of Procopio Circle: Someone entered a rear door to van between noon Dec. 22 and 5 p.m. Dec. 23, and stole a $400 table saw, a $600 power tool, a $150 Sears router, a $200 Milwaukee drywall screw gun and a $100 belt sander skill tool.

* Oakland Mills: 5900 block of Stevens Forest Road: Someone entered a 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo between 7 p.m. Sunday and noon Monday, and stole a $700 Alpine pull-out compact disc, cassette player and radio, two $150 Alpine tweeters, a $1,200 kicker speaker box, a $400 Alpine amplifier, a $500 Alpine amplifier, a 1350 Alpine 6-disc compact disc changer and $180 ** worth of compact discs.

* Owen Brown: 7100 block of Lasting Light Way: Someone broke a driver's door vent window to a vehicle between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday, and took a $25 brown leather wallet, which contained Visa, Sears and Hub charge and credit cards, a Social Security card and personal papers.
